Interestingly, on my list for 2026 is 12 months of writing for French. Only I wont be journaling (because i find it boring and I never stick to it), instead I will be writing a story (or novel). (I know, I'm a little radical) I like writing about Fantasy because I love World Building.

I find journaling a fascinating tool, especially for people who genuinely enjoy writing. In my own practice, I tend to add another layer to it such as metalinguistic awareness. With help of Claude I often reflect on whether my phrasing would sound natural to a native speaker or how it might be perceived. In that sense, journaling becomes not only a writing exercise but also a space for noticing language. This probably works better for higher levels of self-study rather than for beginners.
